Lily was pretty predictable on how she tend to spend her evenings.Especially after a long day which is what she had today.The park always seemed to calm her.She loved the trees and nature in general.The wind blew gently today and the leaves were barely starting to turn orange,red,and brown.Fall and Spring was Lily's most favorite time of the year to visit the town's only park. She wore a cute dress that barely reached her knees that was black in color.She left her straight smooth black hair down and it seemed to blow slightly in the direction of today's breeze.Her very blue eyes widen in amazement of the beauty of everything surrounding her.Even though she visited daily everyday brought something different to be seen or heard. Lily stopped and stayed at the edge of the fountain in the middle of the park.She loved this spot the most.She threw a penny in the fountain and made a wish... |

Jared was a man of few words. Did not care for much but the beauty of nature. So he'd stroll through the park every day. He rather enjoyed he moonlit sky so normally he'd walk at night and admire when few were around then make a wish in the fountain before heading home.
This day was different however Jared was not the healthiest man in the world so he had to go to his Dr. that morning so he walked through the park in daylight for a change. He admired the leaves as they broke off and the scenery around. Not wanting to break tradition he headed to the fountain to make his wish again that day. In the center was the usual angel statue but a different site was there from his night walk a woman was there starring at the fountain.
He look down tossed his coin and thought on his wish.

Lily was deep in thought while she starred at the still cool water of the fountain.She didn't notice a man had approached til he tossed a coin and ripples were seen within the water's surface.At first she slightly jumped without making a sound and without much attention being drawn towards her.Once regaining her composure she studied the man that was so close to her.She wasn't used to there being anyone here during this time of day.
Lily's thoughts wondered to who he was and what he could possibly wish for.Instead of speaking and introducing herself she remained silent so she wouldn't interrupt him.Like her, his wish was secret and should not be given much thought.A wish spoken never comes true.Lily knew this.So without a word she took her eyes off the stranger and went back to starring at the water that was once again still.

Jared thought long and hard for his wish not that it came true all these years but for some reason he still held hope. As he finished the water had calmed he clapped his hands together as he read in a book that's a Japanese traditional way of wishing. He suddenly realized that he wasn't alone this time the woman was still there. Worried he disturbed her wishing he waited til she appeared to be done. He only uttered a single sentence before moving. "I'm sorry if I interrupted. "

Lily looked back up and towards the man as he started to leave.She felt frozen and did not say anything at first.As he started to walk away that was when she seemed to have courage to speak.
"You didn't interrupt..." ,she said in hopes that he would hear her.
She wasn't used to speaking to strangers or many people for that matter.Lily afterall was the shy and silent type but something about this man made her want to make a effort to speak.
Maybe it was the type of day she had.Maybe it was the man in general.Or maybe even impossible enough it was the "magic" of the fountain and possibly her wish was in motion to be granted after all these years.
Only time could really tell...All she knew was that she felt that she HAD to get to know him..

He heard of very faint voice as he was walking away. There weren't many in the park and the sound came from behind him. He slowly turned to the woman still at the fountain. He hid his surprise as he wasn't expecting that. He did not wished to be rude as by looking it seemed her attention was divided between the fountain and now him so he took a few steps back towards the fountain. He spoke albeit hesitant to do so.
"I'm sorry miss I didn't quite catch that. Its not often someone wishes to a fountain anymore. Not many believe in it. Its a sacred thing. I hope whatever you were wishing for comes to you."
He then thought if he should say anything else as hearing itself talk it seemed as he rambled not even really knowing what she said. Normally he'd walk away at this point but for some reason he felt he should remain but for a few moments see what would happen next.

Lily looked him in the eyes briefly before looking down at her feet.Slightly embarrassed and her cheeks started to flush.
"You didn't interrupt..I hope my wish comes true.Wishing on the same wish for several years now...."
She didn't know why she said that.She clinched her fists in her lap and started to blush slightly again.
It took her a few moments to regain her composure.She unclinched her fists and looked back up at him. "How long have you been coming here? No one other than me comes here around this time...."

Jared was surprised by her response. She seemed somewhat embarrassed they way she was moving. For some reason he found it adorable. He walked a little closer to the fountain. And replied...
"You've been wishing for several years I see."
He paused
" I thought I was the only one. I've been coming nearly every day for 10 years myself. I come at night it's quite a sight to see in the moonlight. You know they say the bigger the wish the longer it takes to grant. So don't give up on it and it will come true eventually. "
He did not know what came over hom to talk so much. Perhaps he was not only trying to encourage the woman but himself as well. Although now all he thought about was how foolish he must have appeared.

Lily's eyes lite up as he mentioned the sight of the view in the moonlight. "I might have to come at night sometime then to see it in the moonlight", she softly said.
She reach out her hand in gesture to shake his.
"I am Lily by the way."
She seemed a little more relaxed now in his presence.

He was surprised at the woman's actions. Most at this point would have gestured him to go on his way. This Lily person instead not only introduced herself but offered her hand which he instinctively took without thinking.
"Jared. Pleasure to meet you Lily. I'm not used to seeing many here."
He did not know what to say in this moment as he was getting anxious but he did not want to leave it at that.
"I'm sorry for my ramblings. It must seem foolish but I'd like to believe in wishes coming true."

"Nice to meet you Jared.I am not used to seeing anyone here during this time.Is it safe to assume that you come here at a different time?"
Lily took her hand that she used to shake Jared's with and rested it on her lap.She was starting to get tired and it was starting to slowly show.She hated her fragile health at times with a burning passion.
"Rambling is fine", she said with a smile on her pretty face.

As he let go of her hand he responded to her question.
"I take it you only visit during the day. Yes, I only come at night."
He looked slightly towards the ground
"I may enjoy the moonlight but I have other reasons..."
Looking up a bit he could hardly tell but something seemed different about Lily come to think of it her grip was weak towards the end. He with his untold limitations grew more aware with his other senses.
"Miss Lily are you alright?"

"I come in the evenings.When the sun is setting.No sooner than that."
She seemed surprised when he asked her if she alright,She didn't let it show though.
"I am fine.I just have to go now actually.Tired from the day"
Lily didn't say anything that could imply that health wasn't the best.Better that he doesn't know anyways.She wouldn't let anyone know other than herself and her doctor.No point in worrying anyone close to her or a complete stranger for that matter.

Hearing her reply he wondered to himself if he perhaps crossed a line saying something. He could just tell something wasn't right as he knew all to well the signs....
He did not wish to push her too far but for some reason felt compelled to make certain
"I see. Are you certain?"
He half expected the answer but hoping he was wrong.
"I apologize if I said something upsetting I just have a sense for these things. Evenings huh? I may have to try come earlier sometime" He says as he begins to turn

When he asked her if she was certain Lily nodded her head in response.
"Have a good night", she said to him as he turned to leave.She waited until Jared left and sighed in relief.She wondered how he could tell that something wasn't right with her.She shooked her head and dismissed her thoughts.No point in wondering since she may not see that man again.
She carefully got up and started her short walk home.When she arrived to her small one bedroom apartment she immediately went to her bed room and crashed on her bed.She quickly fell asleep from her complete exhaustion from the day....

Jared walked towards his home as there was nothing left he had to do that day. His mind dwelled on what just happened. He had concern for the woman for some reason.
*Its not my business* He thought to himself. As he entered his home he sat down and took his glasses off as he no longer needed them and rested waiting for night to come.
As the moon shown itself He put his glasses back on and headed back to the park as it was his ritual even if he was already there that day. He got to the fountain and yet again made the same wish he always made only this time 1 thing was different he added that he wanted the woman to get her wish as well. Least he could do for making a fool out of himself. He returned home and tried to go to sleep but he knew all to well that wouldn't happen...

Lily slept through the night.Not waking up once.She had a dreamless sleep most of the night but had only one dream.She didn't know why but she dreamt of the stranger she met today.
She awoke the next morning in a cold sweat.After wiping her forehead she reached over to her night stand and grabbed her medicine.With all her medications in her hand she reached other to her night stand and grabbed a water bottle that was sitting there.She took her pills quickly.Getting up she started to get ready for the day ahead.

Jared did not sleep much that night as expected. It was a rare occasion that he slept in the first place. His thoughts always racing to things that were best buried but could not be. The waking nightmares continued but there was a small reprieve the woman he met... He didn't think much of it but the thought someone also viewed the fountain as he did was a small comfort.
The Sun began to rise and he eventually went to sleep as it did.

Lily took her time getting ready today.She took careful care in her appearance.She decided on a frilly black skirt that reached her knees and a lacy dark purple tank top.She had her hair half up and half down and decided to lightly curl it.Simple makeup.
She grabbed her purse and slipped on her black flip flops.
She twirled her hair and half listened while the doctor spoke to her.She just wanted her appointments to be over with...
Hours pasted by and finally she was free to stop by the Cafe close to the park where she always went to in order to drink her usual green iced tea before she went to the fountain.

Jared "woke" up. He got dressed and clean the room. The phone began to ring. He goes to pick up the phone he had a feeling whom it was.
"Hello"
As expected it was the Dr.'s office the person on the other side said what they needed to say
"I see... thank you for letting me know'
He sadly puts down the phone. The news was not what he wanted to here.
"I guess nothing can be done. Times up. I shouldn't but I need to get out of here.
He headed for his coat and walked out to his favorite cafe while ordering he thought on what he should do next.
